Regular dental exams are a critical part of preventive health care. A routine dental examination is carried out by your dentist every six months unless they recommend it differently, for example, if you do not have any dental issues then the dentist will normally see you every 12 months.
APPOINTMENT INFORMATION
At your routine examination the dentist will carry out a full examination of all of your teeth and check for decay, wear or any broken teeth. The dentist will also complete a full oral cancer health check by examining your gums, tongue and soft tissues in the mouth. If required the dentist may also take bite-wing x-rays depending on when you last had them (normally every two years) or if there is decay present under an existing filling.
The dentist will then carry out a check of the glands in your neck and also your temporomandibular joint which is located at the side of your head. If you require any treatment the dentist will discuss this with you detailing different treatment options.
Once any following treatment is agreed the dentist will then provide you with a printed treatment plan detailing any costs and ask you to book follow-up appointments. If you do not require any treatment the dentist will advise you when they need to see you next.
