Dental Anxiety Management

OVERVIEW

Dental anxiety is quite common for patients visiting the dentist, but we have ways to help you manage. If you let us know you are anxious we will allow extra time for your appointment. Being scared to visit the dentist can result in delaying or avoiding dental treatment and we want to avoid this as much as possible so it does not affect your oral health.

APPOINTMENT INFORMATION

At your initial appointment, we will ask you about your medical and dental history and what your main concerns are. We will explain what we will be doing at every stage to make sure you feel comfortable before we lie you back in the chair to look in your mouth.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them as we want your experience to be as comfortable as possible. If you want to bring a friend or family member to your appointment this is absolutely fine as sometimes a familiar face can help you to relax.

We do not want your appointment to be rushed and we want you to ask questions so we can help you with your anxiety. We can always add time to your appointment when booking and if you require treatment then we will again talk you through the process.

All appointments will be with the same dentist, and we will try to have the same dental nurse in with you, so you build up confidence with that dentist. If you suffer from severe anxiety and require treatment in some cases we can prescribe oral sedation that just relaxes you during the treatment, the dentist would discuss this with you first before booking any appointments.
